Chatham County Board of Commissioners Meeting: Monday, July 17th at 6:00pm. Pittsboro Historic Court House. A public hearing will be held on extending the moratorium on hydraulic fracturing by one year. Chatham residents may also comment on the proposal by emailing lindsay.ray@chathamnc.org.

Meet Ohio: Swing State and Casualty of Fracking’s Hazards

At the 28th Annual Meeting of Clean Water for NC, Kari Matsko of the People’s Oil and Gas Collaborative in Ohio spoke powerfully about her first-hand experience with the natural gas industry. Her presentation, “Voices from the Ohio Shaleplay and Lessons Learned” is the personal perspective of an “accidental activist” from a state where lack state or federal oversight has wreaked havoc on the lives of communities. She explores property rights, the effects of deep well injection to dispose of fracking waste-water, and how protecting our communities from fracking’s hazards can reach across party lines.
