SUMMARY:Comment Deadline for Roanoke Valley Lumber
DESCRIPTION:Draft Permit\nEnvironmental Justice Snapshot \nRoseburg Forest Products applied to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality\, Division of Air Quality\, for a PSD (Prevention of Significant Deterioration) permit to construct and operate a new lumber sawmill\, named Roanoke Valley Lumber\, located at 290 Power Place Drive\, Weldon\, Halifax County\, NC. The mill will process southern yellow pine logs and includes lumber operations\, lumber drying\, planer mill\, and an emergency fire water pump. \nThe facility will be constructed in two phases: the first phase will support up to 300 million bd-ft per year of lumber drying capacity. The second phase will support additional 200 million bd-ft per year lumber drying capacity bringing the total capacity to 500 million bd-ft/yr. Even though the facility will be constructed in two phases\, this PSD permit approval is for the entire project (five kilns and ancillary equipment). \nThe facility is a new “major stationary source” for at least one regulated NSR pollutant (VOC). This new facility will also result in significant increases in the emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs). \nPersons wishing to submit written comments or request a public hearing regarding the Air Quality Permit are invited to do so. Requests for a public hearing must be in writing and include a statement supporting the need for such a hearing\, an indication of your interest in the facility\, and a summary of the information intended to be offered at such hearing. \nWritten comments or requests for a public hearing should be postmarked no later than February 17\, 2022 and addressed to daq.publiccomments@ncdenr.gov (Please type “Roanoke Valley Lumber.21A” in the subject line)\, or mail written comments to:\nNCDEQ Division of Air Quality\n1641 Mail Service Center\nRaleigh\, North Carolina 27699-1641 \nA public hearing may be held if the Director of the DAQ determines that significant public interest exists or that the public interest will be served.

SUMMARY:Virtual Information Session on RTOs\, January 24th
DESCRIPTION:The Sustainable FERC Project is working to produce a public report that would provide specific recommendations for changes and improvements in regional transmission organizations’ (RTOs) existing public participation practices to serve as the basis for future advocacy on reforms.  \nAs FERC examines these issues\, they are particularly interested in hearing perspectives from environmental justice and community-based organizations\, scholars and leaders on your familiarity with RTOs and their public participation processes\, your level of current participation (if any) in these processes\, and your feedback on areas for improvement. \nPlease note: Only a small portion of North Carolina is served by an RTO. View the map here. \nFor those who may not be familiar with RTOs\, or who would like a refresher\, FERC will hold two 45-minute informational sessions on Wednesday\, January 19\, 7:30 – 8:15 PM ET and Monday\, January 24\, 3:00 – 3:45 PM ET. \nThese sessions will be identical\, so you only need to attend one. If you would like to attend\, or if you are interested but would prefer a different date and time\, please fill out the registration form
