As environmental justice continues to be integrated into EPA programs and policies\, the Agency hopes that these calls will help reaffirm EPA’s continued commitment to work with community groups and the public to strengthen local environmental and human health outcomes. SUMMARY:The Current State of Waste and Race in North Carolina
DESCRIPTION:This talk will examine the historical and contemporary impacts that solid waste facilities have on communities of color in North Carolina and reflect on the 40-year history of environmental justice organizing around waste facilities in the United States. Courtney Woods is an associate professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering at the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill\, where she leads the Environmental Justice Action Research Clinic\, which provides technical assistance for residents facing urgent environmental health threats. Woods also is a founding member of Earthseed Land Collective.   \nThis session is also part of a multi-college collaboration spotlighting change-makers across the country who are driving justice and equity forward called Journeys Toward Justice.  \nRegister here
