It is still unclear how the company will produce greater amounts of PFA and still comply with discharge and emissions limits that are laid out in the consent order with the state and Cape Fear River Watch. For example\, Chemours is required to limit its air emissions of perfluorinated compounds by 99%. The company is also building an underground barrier wall to keep the compounds out of the river. Until the wall is complete\, compounds will continue to enter the Cape Fear\, albeit in sharply reduced amounts.

DESCRIPTION:EPA is interested in hearing from overburdened and underserved communities and other key stakeholders about potential requirements for states to conduct meaningful engagement in developing their state plans under Emissions Guidelines issued under section 111(d) of the Clean Air Act. \nThe Agency’s proposed Emission Guidelines for the Oil and Natural Gas Industry included a requirement to meaningfully engage with communities during state plan development (beyond holding public hearings). Oil and Gas Commission is responsible for adopting rules on oil and gas exploration in North Carolina. The Oil and Gas Commission also has the authority to regulate the spacing of wells for oil and gas exploration\, establish areas where oil and gas drilling can occur\, and limit the production of oil and gas exploration. By law\, the commission is required to submit annual progress reports to the Joint Legislative Commission on Energy Policy and the Environmental Review Commission. The Oil and Gas Commission and a reconstituted Mining Commission were created to carry out the regulatory responsibilities of the former state Mining and Energy Commission. The General Assembly eliminated the Mining and Energy Commission after the commission had adopted rules that govern oil and gas exploration and development in North Carolina. The Oil and Gas Commission has nine members. A total of four members are appointed by leaders in each chamber of the General Assembly. The remaining five members are appointed by the governor. Members serve for four years.

The Digester System General Permit drafts are available online. Permits will be finalized by June 30\, 2022\, as directed by statute. \nDEQ is conducting these meetings as part of its commitment to a transparent public engagement process during the development of the general permits. DESCRIPTION:The White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) has announced a series of public listening sessions and training webinars on the beta version of the Climate and Economic Justice Screening Tool (CEJST). The next public listening session on the beta version of this tool will be held on April 15th at 4:00 PM. Register for the April 15th Public Listening Session! \nThe CEJST will help Federal agencies identify disadvantaged communities for the purposes of the Justice40 Initiative—a signature initiative of the Biden-Harris Administration that seeks to provide 40 percent of the overall benefits of certain Federal investments to disadvantaged communities. The current version of the tool is in a public beta form and will be updated based on public feedback and research. In addition to submitting written comments through the Federal Register\, the public can also provide feedback directly on the CEJST website.
