SUMMARY:Stokes Community Meeting: No to Project Delta!
DESCRIPTION:Join Stokes community members for a meeting to strategize next steps on how Walnut Cove and Stokes County can oppose the Project Delta Data Center. This includes planning for future Board of Commissioners and planning board meetings\, helping with research and outreach\, and more. Stokes County must keep the momentum going for the second round of this data center proposal! \nWhy are Stokes County residents concerned?\n\n\nThis data center is a threat to local history and heritage; it would be on land that was Upper Saura Town and that has a historic home of the Hairston family.\nThe Saura site is also culturally relevant to the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation.\nData centers don’t employ many people long term and are one reason electric bills are rising 2x faster than inflation.\nThis data center would be on the banks of the Dan River\, construction could cause pollution of the Dan.\nThis data center does not align with the Stokes County 2035 Land Use Plan\, which designates this area for low-density residential use and conservation\, not large-scale industrial development. SUMMARY:Davidson County Planning Board meeting: Protect The Yadkin River!
DESCRIPTION:Duke wants to build this energy complex to serve data centers that don’t exist yet. If the Davie-Davidson Energy Complex moves forward\, we could see an explosion of data centers in the area. This development would permanently alter the region’s natural character\, remove portions of Perkins Game Land from conservation and public use\, and industrialize this stretch of the Yadkin River. It would also expose nearby communities to harmful air pollution — all while leaving Duke customers to foot the bill. \n First\, the county planning board will consider the project on Tuesday\, Oct. 20 and then the board of commissioners will cast a deciding vote on Monday\, Nov. 9. If the rezoning is denied\, Duke cannot move forward with this project.
