Certain people in the hog industry are saying that the solution to this factory farm waste is to turn it into energy: biogas, they’re calling it. It’s being proposed as a “green” solution to the harmful effects of factory farming. But it does not reduce harm to local communities, and lets the hog business continue business as usual, with large-scale polluting animal factories now painted as a source of renewable energy.
