Community Information Session on the Hazards of Chapel Hill’s Coal Ash

Are you concerned about coal ash in your community?

Join (in-person or via Zoom!) the Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League (BREDL), Climate Action NC, Friends of Bolin Creek, the Chapel Hill Organization for Clean Energy (CHOCE), and the Alliance of Carolinians Together (ACT) Against Coal Ash for a hybrid in-person and virtual community information session on June 22nd, 2022 to expose the hazards of coal ash in Chapel Hill. We’ll hear from community members and experts to discuss the Town of Chapel Hill’s controversial proposed plan to build housing on top of coal ash. Learn more!

Speakers include:

Caroline Armijo: Founding member of ACT against Coal Ash and Founder/Director of The Lilies Project, a creative placemaking effort to make art out of coal ash.

Robert Beasley: Concerned and informed Chapel Hill resident and native North Carolinian

Julie McClintock: Leader of Friends of Bolin Creek’s advocacy for a healthy outcome for the coal ash landfill and retired EPA scientist.

Adam Searing: Public interest lawyer, lobbyist and health advocate, Searing currently serves as a member of the Chapel Hill Town Council.

Jason Torian: Community Organizer with Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League (BREDL).

Nick Torrey: Senior Attorney with the Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC).

Nancy Watkins: Concerned and informed Chapel Hill resident, neuroscientist and member of ScientistsWarning.org.
